The first deployment is a brutal shock to the system 💙 No matter how much preparation you’ve made - you will always feel unprepared... You'll find yourself crying in the bathroom - muffling your breathing so he can't hear your cries. Then you’ll take a breath – wipe your tears and act like nothing happened. You’ll leave little reminders everywhere to let him know how much you love him. The days / weeks leading up – the dread will suck the life out of you. But most importantly – they’ll remind you to make every minute of them count – because for the next 400 days, texting will be your best friend with the occasional video / phone call. Y ou'll help him finish packing his things and spend one more night together. You'll drive him to the base. You'll hug him and kiss him - holding back your tears to not make this harder for him. You'll look back one more time and see him walking away – you’
